Dresses we made

Janis was lucky because the seams were coming out before I even got home

One year we all made dresses from the same pattern and wore them to school on the same day. Mine was pink kettle-cloth. Maybe they were all kettle-cloth but different colors. I'm very happy mine didn't fall apart before I got home.

Band Practice for Christmas Parade

I remember marching up and down the streets behind the band room practicing music to play in the Christmas Parade. The sound echoed from the houses we passed. Mr. Hollis marched beside us in his little work boots. He was really great. My favorite song was "Sleigh Ride". It was so much fun to know we were an important part of our community celebration. I still miss being a part of the band but I'm not much of a clarinet player anymore.

Sadie Hawkins day

Once a year at school we were allowed to dress up and come to school for a day of fun...I think this one part allowed us to see that learning and having fun can go hand in hand. It allowed us to associate at leastt for that one day as persons having fun without the overlook of a teacher directing our steps...This along with the Diary Queen, the Lighthouse, the Boat Harbor played a big part in our growing up years. Kids don't get that anymore.
